This is one of the axial sections viewed from a sagittal perspective. If you look carefully, you can see the biofilm appears to be constructed “in layers” and every so often you can observe these “layers” peeling off so you can see what is “underneath”. All of what you are looking at is a biofilm. You cannot see any dentin.
